Hva er et gamme telt?

What is a glamping tent?

The Venor Gamme all-season tent is a further development of the lavvo. Inspired by the simple shape of earthen huts, the Venor Gamme is an all-season tent with a solid construction.

The History of the Turf Gamme

A gamme, or goahti in Northern Sámi, is an ancient form of dwelling. It is often associated with the Sámi people, but similar structures have been used by people throughout Norway ever since the first settlers arrived. Most people associate the word gamme with turf-covered shelters, or turf gammes. These have a wooden framework covered with layers of turf or earth.

In Sámi areas, turf gammes were used year-round as family homes. Typically, a gamme consisted of a single room with a fireplace in the center. In some cases, larger gammes were built with multiple rooms, for instance when the family needed space for livestock.

To build a traditional turf gamme as it was done in the past, one would first construct a wooden frame. Then layers of birch bark and turf were stacked from the base of the structure and upwards. The birch bark acted as a moisture barrier, while the turf provided insulation. Building a turf gamme involved heavy physical labor, but the result was a sturdy home that could last for decades, as long as it was properly maintained.

Venor Gamme
The Venor Gamme can be seen as a modern interpretation of traditional turf huts. This all-season tent has a round shape and a self-supporting construction, making it extremely stable in strong winds and challenging weather conditions. It features a sturdy frame made of aluminum poles with user-friendly click connections. When set up, the Gamme is very spacious, developed for Nordic conditions, and designed for use with a tent stove.

Some describe the Venor Gamme as the closest you can get to a portable cabin—and that’s an accurate description. The Venor Gamme retains the circular footprint of the traditional lavvu, but the walls are nearly vertical. This gives the entire tent full standing height and greatly improves the use of space. You can easily furnish it with a camp bed, chairs, and a table if you like—and still have plenty of room. Inside the Gamme, it’s warm and cozy. A welcoming place to return to after a long day outdoors.

The Venor Gamme is locally made and produced in Norway, offering both quality and the assurance of a solid, reliable product. It is built on tradition and generations of experience. The tent is of exceptionally high quality and serves as an excellent base for unforgettable outdoor and nature experiences. A unique self-supporting construction ensures the tent remains extremely stable in strong winds and challenging weather conditions. With the Venor Gamme as your campsite, you can be confident that you’ll stay dry, safe, and warm in all seasons!
